Just Books is hosting a Grand Re-Opening and Open House on Saturday, September 6, 2008, to celebrate its new ownership and remodeled store. The open house and grand re-opening event will feature local authors and will be held at Just Books, 28 Arcadia Road, Old Greenwich, Conn., from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2008. Local authors interested in participating should have a book that was published in the past six months and must contact Just Books owner Marion Holmes at 203-637-0707 to secure a spot at the Grand Re-Opening event. Just Books is the oldest independent bookstore in Fairfield County and has been family-owned since 1949. The store has been owned and managed most recently by local Greenwich resident Jenny Lawton. Lawton sold the store last month to the new owner, Marion Holmes, who also grew up in Greenwich. The store has been closed for the past several weeks as it has undergone a renovation, being spruced up with new paint, carpeting, and restocking the shelves with books to get ready for the store's grand debut. Just Books is a favorite destination and is known for its many popular author programs and events, including the well-attended Meet-the-Authors series, in-store book signing events with authors, book clubs, a Kid's Board and a Just Books Teen group. Just Books has been a top destination for best-selling authors on book tours and has hosted such well-known authors as Stephen King, Toni Morrison, Frank McCourt, Eric Carle, Mike Lupica, R.L. Stine, Linda Greenlaw, Jane O'Connor, Rosemary Wells, Madeleine Albright, Henry Kissinger, Barbara Bush, Rudy Giuliani, Caroline Kennedy, and many more.
"We are very excited to re-open Just Books and what better way to celebrate a local bookstore than with a local author event," noted Marion Holmes, owner of Just Books. "Greenwich seems to be an area rich with terrific literary talent and we plan on showcasing that talent, along with national bestsellers, at the store."
Holmes noted that Just Books will still retain all of the big author events that have been such a draw, and hopes to make the store even more conducive to author events with a new layout. In the remodeled store, the children's section has been expanded, comfy reading chairs and tables have been put in, there will be a wall of recommended books, and the shelves have been reconfigured to give the store more space to move around and to make it a destination to come and enjoy books and author events. Just Books is also proud to support the community with a renewed and continued focus on customer service. Just Books will also continue working with Arcadia Coffee Company and other community organizations such as the Greenwich Arts Council for Literary Lights, the Avon Theatre, the Garden Education Center, the Greenwich Water Club, the Arch Street Teen Center, local schools, the Perrot Library and the Greenwich Library to bring top authors into the area.
