STEAL THIS STYLE
Moms and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrets
By Sherrie Mathieson
Known as the "thinking woman's stylist," Sherrie Mathieson has made it her mission to show baby boomers how to dress with confidence and flair. Following the success of her first book, Forever Cool, Mathieson now reveals how moms and daughters can trade from each other's closets in STEAL THIS STYLE: Moms and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrets: (Clarkson Potter; April 14, 2009).
As women age, it becomes trickier for them to choose outfits that are modern, stylish, and age appropriate. Mathieson's message is that women can not only age gracefully, but also intelligently through their wardrobe selections. She believes that the natural approach (less is more) is the best one when creating an overall look. The key is to bridge timeless and trendy styles by combining classic, enduring core pieces with a variety of clothing items and accessories that reflect what's in the pages of the latest magazines.
In her book, Mathieson assembled twenty sets of real moms and daughters (and a few grandmothers, too!) from a variety of backgrounds, body types, and ages ranging from twenty-one to eighty-six, to illustrate the concept of cross-generational dressing. From sporty and casual looks to business and black-tie attire, she reveals how moms can update their styles by borrowing tricks from their daughters, just as younger women can transcend trends with wardrobe secrets from their moms.
Using her signature "Never Cool" versus "Forever Cool" photographs and witty commentary, Mathieson provides youthful remedies for common fashion mishaps - from moms who try too hard by wearing an abundance of prints, mismatched styles, and overly revealing attire to moms who don't try hard enough, sporting frumpy, oversized, and outdated clothes. Filled with fabulous tips, such as how to choose the right kind of jeans or how to pick the perfect accessory to finish off an ensemble, STEAL THIS STYLE puts the pleasure back into dressing while offering baby boomers and their daughters a way to bond.

ACHIEVE AGELESS, MODERN STYLE
Seventy-five million Baby Boomers spend $100 billion annually on apparel and accessories; but you'd never know by looking at them! Distressed by the way so many of her peers allocate their clothing dollars, knowing they could do so much better, costume designer and stylist Sherrie Mathieson set out to help her generation dress for their active, modern lifestyle.
Mathieson's debut book FOREVER COOL: HOW TO ACHIEVE AGELESS, YOUTHFUL, AND MODERN PERSONAL STYLE (Clarkson Potter/Publishers, October 9, 2007) is the first and only guide to demonstrate how clothes and accessories can age an individual or create a younger image. Using real-life models in more than 200 makeovers, FOREVER COOL proves that you don't have to go to extremes to look and feel younger.
Each page pictures an unfortunate, yet common, "never cool" ensemble and beside it a "forever cool" re-do. Mathieson's theory is to skip formulas. Instead, she counsels her boomer brethren to avoid trying too hard and presents stylish, contemporary twists on classic looks. With a range of options covering casual outfits, evening attire, workout gear, and even ski-wear, Mathieson demonstrates which colors, fabrics, cuts and patterns to look for and those to pass by.
Mathieson spent the past few years traveling nationwide presenting the FOREVER COOL principles in style seminars. Her personality, philosophy and easy advice have all been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, confirming a need for a widespread gospel. A friendly and charismatic fashion tool, FOREVER COOL will crank up the style and whisk off the years.
