our speakers
Lynn Suzanne Sullivan, M.S. Ed.
How was I to explain my family's make-up to others, when my adoptive family couldn't explain my culture to me? As I grew, I felt guilt in curiosity and shame in assimilation.
As the product of an interracial adoption, Lynn speaks candidly to the complexity of race in America and the concepts of white privilege, racial identity, and the importance of sharing authentic stories to open moving dialogue.
Native to Stamford, CT, Lynn Sullivan always has been passionate about community initiatives as her roots are entrenched in the Fairfield-Westchester County areas. As a teenager, Lynn was a recipient of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women's Arts Award Scholarship and later became an invited guest speaker for the SWCT Junior League Association.
With a strong interest in the expressive arts, she attended Rutgers University-Mason Gross School of the Arts. She was an intern at the Black Filmmakers Foundation where she worked in the casting office under director Spike Lee's production company. She later pursued a minor degree in Psychology and graduated from Rutgers University, Douglass College.
Lynn has worked in the independent school sector as both a classroom teacher and administrator. She has held title as a Director of Admissions and Diversity Director and sat on senior administrative teams. She has worked as a consultant, educating public school teachers on Cultural Diversity in Technology curriculum development and implementation. Ms. Sullivan is a proud member of the prestigious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority, and is affiliated with many national and local service organizations.
Lise Leist
Silence always was present when I entered the room, but their faces were yelling as I passed. They were people struggling to conceal their fears and ignorance, while I was struggling to reach out for acceptance and survival.
Lise Leist currently is a fifth grade teacher at a private school in Stamford, CT. This is Lise's "second career." Formerly, career opportunities afforded her work in publishing, serving in senior management positions for USA Today, The New York Post and Mirabella Magazine.
She also has been trained and certified by The Protocol School of Washington, the leader in etiquette and protocol services. The activities included in her program are specifically designed to reinforce verbal and written lessons introduced to students with a growing emphasis on character education.
