The global success story of the New York Times bestselling novel, WOLF BROTHER, by British author Michelle Paver, was a publishing phenomenon in the U.S. The first of six books in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, it broke all records internationally for a first-time children's novel, sold into over thirty countries. The book--to-film deal with Fox 2000 and director/producer Ridley Scott only added to the excitement and success of the book. Set 6,000 years ago in the primeval forests of northern Europe, WOLF BROTHER is the story of 12-year-old Torak, who, with his wolf-cub companion, confronts an ancient evil, trapped in the form of a supernaturally large black bear.
Now in SPIRIT WALKER, the second installment in the epic Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, Torak'’s quest to fight evil continues as he discovers that he is a Spirit Walker -- able to shift into other beings' bodies. A sickness is spreading among the Clans, and Torak discovers it is part of the evil doings of child temons called tokoroths. He travels to the spectacular ocean islands of the Seal Clan, where he will battle a mysterious menace and uncover a betrayal that will change his life forever.
Marked by Paver's incredible storytelling and infused with her incredible research for the book (traveling to Scandinavia, swimming with killer whales, and hiking to ancient ritualistic sites in the mountains), SPIRIT WALKER is a breathtaking story of fellowship, treachery, and self-sacrifice that takes the reader further on the spellbinding journey that began in WOLF BROTHER.
Michelle Paver has been thinking about the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series her entire life, but the inspiration to write it came when she found herself face to face with a grizzly bear in the Sierra Nevadas and knew she had experienced what it was like to be prey -- just as Torak does. Before becoming a writer, Michelle had a successful and lucrative career as a litigator. She has written three adult novels published in the UK. SPIRIT WALKER is her second book for children. When she is not doing research for her novels in Finland, Africa, or other exotic locales, she lives in London.
