Dear Readers:
Finally, there's a fall twang in the air. The days are getting shorter and it is prime porch-reading time. The Blackout of 2003 reminded us of some basics that we too often forget - there's plenty to do with a candle and a quiet night that doesn't involve the television and, friends and family are perhaps best enjoyed when least expected as your evening's company. The star studded sky enveloped in the quiet velvet of an airplane-free sky was almost a treat and a clear invitation to settle in and read a good book.
September is a busy month! We're very excited about our author line-up for the fall. Some people are curious why we charge for some events but not for others. When we have an event outside of the store, it costs us money to rent a venue and provide some sustenance. The ticket costs cover our costs. When we have a signing or event in-store, we don't have additional costs so there is no charge. Hope this helps!
We will be teaming with Elm Street Books in New Canaan for our larger author events. It's so important that independent bookstores grow and thrive and collaborating with Elm Street Books is win-win for all involved.
We're using this issue as the Fall Events Primer so that you don't miss any of the awesome authors that we have coming to visit.
Finally, a hearty congratulations to Katie Krauss and Steve Smith. Katie is our new store manager at Just Books and Steve will move from our Just Books location to Just Books, Too to be the store manager of Just Books, Too. While many of you know both Katie and Steve, we are excited to expand their roles!
Have a great September!
Jenny, Thomas, Thomas and Nicholas Lawton
