The Assassins Gallery falls into the mystery/historical fiction category that I always find confusing. On the one hand, this is a quick read aka "airplane read" in Jenny-lingo. On the other, this is a fascinating book that poses typically provocative conspiracy theory questions about Roosevelt's death. It's a rare mystery that stays with me and churns over in my mind and gives me food for thought, and this is one of those rare finds.
Robbins has included a fascinating and seemingly well-researched background on assassins. Who they are, where they came from, how they came about and what their modus operandi is. The absolutely terrifying part of what Robbins writes is that a trained assassin is virtually impossible to stop which is the theory that he is looking to prove in The Assassins Gate.
I'm a believe in the premise of this book -- that Roosevelt was assassinated -- as I am often inclined to do with well-researched historical fiction. Which means, of course, that I will have to read the next biography to balance out my understanding ... the PERFECT beach read for lovers of mysteries, conspiracy theories and historical fiction.
